Pickfords acts fast on Australian bush fire tragedy

The Australian Bush fires may be on the other side of the world, but for one Finance Manager they were too close to ignore

Melbourne based Travis Scholes, operations manager at Freedom Finance in Wilmslow reacted quickly when he learned that family friends had died in the fire and engaged colleagues to collect clothes, nappies, baby bottles and toys for the victims of the fire.

Travis needed to ship the goods to Australia and called Nick Wilkinson, Branch Manager at Pickfords in Manchester. Within the hour,   10 boxes were delivered to Travis’ office in Wilmslow where the staff of Freedom Finance embarked on packing up the goods.

Pickfords engaged the help of Allied Pickfords in Australia and the goods were shipped to Australia to the Salvation Army and Red Cross, who will help distribute them.

Managing Director Kevin Pickford says “We applaud Travis and his colleagues for doing something to help, particularly as his friends and family were directly affected by the Bush Fire. Pickfords has close friends and colleagues in Victoria and we were only too happy to help”

The fires were caused by a record heat wave and strong winds have so far killed more than 180 people and left 1,000 families homeless.
