Removals insurance
Frequently asked questions
What insurance does Pickfords offer?
Pickfords offers Insurance, which entitles you to have your items either replaced or repaired or to have financial compensation for any lost or destroyed item, at the insurer's option.
How is this different from liability insurance?
Many removal companies offer indemnity insurance. If you choose indemnity or liability insurance you will only be paid the second-hand value of goods that are lost or destroyed rather than replacing the item as new.
Who values my goods?
It is your responsibility to estimate the value of your goods. The value advised to insurers must be enough to replace your goods as new so it's always a good idea to compare values in retail outlets to ensure your estimate is the right estimate. For instance, the bed you bought five years ago for £600 may have increased in price to cost £1000 to replace today.
What happens if I under-insure?
If you insure for less than the full value at risk then any claim you make could be scaled down. For example, if your goods are insured at £25,000 but the true value is £50,000 you will only receive half the amount of any claim you submit for the loss or damage of goods.
What happens if I have to make a claim?
Pickfords takes responsibility for managing any claims made against Pickfords insurance rather than pass on its customers' claims to a third party.
If you want to make a claim you will need to notify Pickfords within 14 days of delivery.
