IT method statement
Scope
This Methodology relates to the decommission and re-commission of desk top IT equipment
Process
To successfully carry out this activity the following process should be followed:
- Ensure full approval for commencing from client's network engineer
- Check that the machine is logged off the network, switched off and the processor has cooled down
- Check the machine for labels. Ensure correct convention is used
- Remove cabling from back of machine including mains, network cable, keyboard, monitor and mouse. Disconnect any other cables from peripherals e.g. External Zip drive, CD-ROM etc. Use bubble bag to contain all cabling
- The base unit will be wrapped with anti-static bubble roll, placed into the carton, the VDU positioned alongside facing inwards and then the keyboard and cables placed within the carton
- Use of one Pickfords IT Carton is desirable. Where a second carton is required, it will be labelled accordingly
The re-commissioning of machines occurs as follows:
- Check positioning of PC relating to desk with IT
- Check position of PC on desk top - See labelling (left, right or centre)
- Retrieve base of PC, remove protection and position accordingly
- Reconnect mains, mouse, keyboard and any other peripherals as appropriate
- Retrieve monitor, remove protection, place and reconnect
- If required to do so, patch in network cable to appropriate patch point on floor / wall following the patching plan received from IT
- Switch on PC observing there is a boot up
- Where appropriate, Log in using Guest ID, check connectivity to Network - and then log out
