The Olympic Games will take place between 27th July and 12th August 2012, followed by a two week gap before the Paralympics which begin on the 29th August and come to a conclusion on the 9th September.
The Games will present a unique challenge to people planning to move home within London. Roads around the Olympic venues will be closed during the period, permits may be required in high security areas, and the influx of potentially 5 million tourists coming to London during these weeks will present travel and parking problems. The Olympic Highways will create priority lanes within the existing road system, to ensure that athletes are transported to the events in good time, which will place an additional burden on London traffic. The London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games is still working through the traffic planning and we will be keeping a close eye on developments to ensure we can keep our customers moving during this period.
Pickfords has set up a Task Team to overcome the operational challenges presented by the Games. The Task Team has come up with a plan to keep London moving home during the Games.
Find out more about how we are getting prepared, what we will do on move day and the things you should consider if you are planning to move in the gap between the Games.
During the Olympic Games there are likely be over five million tourists and visitors to the UK, which will place a burden on the road and transport system.
If you are planning to move home during the Games contact Pickfords as soon as you know your potential move dates so we can carry out the necessary checks.
