Leicester City Council Museum recently re-housed its stored effects from a storage centre to a newer, larger, single storey building in Leicester.
Pickfords was appointed to move the priceless and delicate artefacts.
The main objective of the move was to relocate an assortment of delicate museum exhibits of various ages, size and value, with a total value exceeding £1.3 million.
Exhibits included glass display, cased and draw held items, loose shelved taxidermy exhibits and furniture, grandfather clock, boxed social history exhibits and historic garments.
Pickfords had to transfer the effects to the new location, sequentially pack at the old site and unpack at the new location. All items were catalogued and labelled prior to the move.
The Pickfords team consisted of one project manager who planned and managed the move and two packers. Pickfords moving crews from the Midlands area were drafted in as they had a thorough geographical understanding of the area. A local branch also meant that Pickfords could be totally flexible with its vehicle and manpower resources.
Detailed planning was key to this successful relocation. The plan included:
Each item was unique and had to be moved to a specific standard
This was a highly fragile and delicate operation and was executed with care and professionalism.
" We had an excellent working relationship with Pickfords staff which resulted in a very successful relocation of a large number of very varied objects from our reserve collection. The whole move was completed as planned to programme."
