In 2007, Pickfords began to work with independent road safety charity Brake. Brake exists to stop the 8 deaths and 79 serious injuries that happen on UK roads every day and to care for families whicih have been bereaved and/or seriously injured in road crashes through support services, education, training and awareness campaigns.
As a major transport organisation with over 600 vehicles in its fleet, road safety is a major focus for Pickfords, to ensure the safety of its drivers and other road users.
This national initiative was organised with the assistance of Council Road Safety officers and the Metropolitan Police and aimed to show ten - twelve year olds the dangers of large vehicles when cycling, particularly at road junctions.
Pickfords representatives from branches in Enfield, Stirling, Glasgow, Newcastle, Worcester, Lincoln, Exeter, Cornwall, Teeside, Manchester and Leeds worked with the schools in their local community. Employees from all areas of the business gave up their time to take part in the initiative.
By the end of the intiative Pickfords and Brake had reached more than 1000 ten - twelve year olds in schools around the country.
