Case Study: Neath Port Talbot Council

Government and Council

Geological experts that were commissioned by Neath Port Talbot Council, discovered a potential landslide risk to the playground at Godre'r Graig Primary School. Following an emergency meeting, a decision to temporarily close the school immediately was made.

Client Requirements

Neath Port Talbot Council arranged for demountable classrooms set up in its own dedicated area at Cwmtawe Secondary School three miles away, and would therefore need all equipment from the current site to be transferred as soon as possible.

The school required:

  • The relocation of 120 staff and students from current site

  • All furniture and associated equipment to be moved

  • The move to be completed as soon as possible due to the risk to the premises and pupils

Solution

  • The provision of an on-site Move Manager to manage the deployment of operations

  • A formal move plan to detail the  actions required by the school’s staff and Pickfords Business Solutions

  • Pickfords offered Neath Port Talbot Council a quick turnaround from initial site visit to completion of the move

  • Due to the urgency of the relocation, Pickfords completed the entire school move to the pre-agreed two day timetable, and over a single weekend

  • Pickfords supplied and moved 150 crates, as well as moving 97 tables, 50 storage units, 153 chairs, over 100 boxes, and a large amount of kitchen equipment

  • Access to the site was a challenge due to a slope the school is built on, so Pickfords supplied three 7.5 trucks with tail lifts

  • Pickfords arranged a crew and the required resources quickly, and in collaboration with the other contractors on site to ensure the school lost the minimum amount of school days

Result

  • Pupils and school staff returned to a safe and fully equipped school on the target date.
