Case Study: Leeds Playhouse

Government and Council

Leeds Playhouse is one of the largest producing theatres in the north, supporting local artists, and engaging with communities across West Yorkshire.

Client requirements

At nearly 30 years of age, the playhouse was showing its age; its building hadn't kept up with the founders’ aspirations for it to remain a great artistic beacon for the North. They required a world class, relevant and compelling theatre.

Through funding from Leeds Council, Arts Council England, and public fundraising campaigns by the Playhouse itself, they were looking to move from their current location to temporary accommodation, while a new state of the art building and theatre were built.

It is expected that this landmark project will transform one of Leeds key cultural institutions into a truly world class theatre venue.

They required:

  • Relocation of around 50 staff, including the booking office, and effects from the current site’s two theatres.
  • The move of personal possessions, and team filing.
  • The move to take place over a single Saturday.

Solution

  • Relocation of all IT, which included approximately 45 desktop PCs, and IT spare stock including keyboards, mice, laptops etc.
  • Prioritising the relocation of the box/booking office to ensure minimum disruption to the Theatres booking process to the public for forthcoming performances
  • Relocation of the booking office safe
  • Collection of all crates within 7 days after the move after move

Result

  • The move was completed on time and within budget, ensuring the time frame requested was adhered to, and the offline period of the booking office was as short as possible.
  • Leeds Playhouse is expected to be at their temporary accommodation until late 2019, at which time Pickfords will move them into the new building.
