Movers are sounding the alarm about new fees on shipments into Brazil that could significantly drive up costs starting in August.
These fees are expected to add at least $1,000 to shipments from the U.S., the Caribbean, and parts of South America. Laura Ganon, CEO of the Brazilian moving company FINK, said some shippers are bracing for increases as high as $2,000 by mid-month, which could further squeeze shipment volumes that are already down.
“The more expensive the freight, the less willing companies—and especially private clients—are to move their household goods,” Ganon explained. “It’s already a slow market, and this could make things even tougher.”
She stressed the importance of movers being transparent with clients and partners. “It’s essential to have clear contracts in place to cover yourself against unexpected changes,” Ganon said. “You also need to keep a close eye on proposals and freight rates while they’re still valid, so any adjustments can be handled smoothly and without frustration.
