Minimum wage changes around the world: What you should know

Brussels:  

All thresholds will be calculated using a monthly technique starting on October 1, 2024, instead of an annual one. Furthermore, the existing yearly income calculation includes benefits in kind and additional salary components (such as double holiday pay and the so-called "13th month"), but the new monthly criteria will only comprise base salary. It will be determined on a case-by-case basis, but certain employee pay could need to be increased. The following minimum wage levels in Brussels will be the result of these changes: 

  • Highly Skilled Single Permit:  
  1. Executives: EUR 6,445.60 per month, up from EUR 83,936 per year. 
  2. Highly skilled: EUR 3,591.12 per month up from EUR 50,310 per year. 
  • EU Blue Card: EUR 4,604.00, up from EUR 65,053 per year.  
  • EU Intra-Company Transfer Permit  
  1. Managers: EUR 5,294.60 per month, up from EUR 65,053 per year.  
  2. Specialists: EUR 4,373.80 per month, up from EUR 52,042 per year.  
  3. Trainees: EUR 2,532.20 per month, up from EUR 32,526 per year.  

Belarus: 

From Effect on August 1, 2024 to October 31, 2024 the foreign national who needs to bring in a dependent spouse need to earn BYN 2462.26 per month which is a increase from BYN 2448.99. 

To sponsor children additional BYN 273.78 – 428.23 per child per month depending on the age of the child is required. These figures are updated every quarter. 

China: 

Unlike other countries, China doesn’t increase the minimum wage for the whole nation. Instead, each province or cities sets its own minimum wage with respect to the local economic conditions. Although major provinces have already increased the minimum wage in the end of 2023 and beginning of 2024, the following provinces are increasing the salary in effect from September & October 2024. 

Hunan:

Hunan’s increase in minimum wage is further split into city wise and effective from the 1st of September 2024 

  • Changsha & Zhuzhou – Monthly minimum wage is increased to 2100 RMB with the hourly minimum wage at 21 RMB. 
  • Xiangta, Yueyang & Changde – Monthly minimum wage is increased to 1900 RMB and the hourly minimum wage to 19 RMB. 
  • Zhangjiajie, Yongzhou & Yiyang – Monthly minimum wage is increased to 1700 RMB and the hourly minimum wage to 17 RMB. 

Jilin:

Similar to Hunan, Jilin’s minimum wage is also increased city wise with effect from 1st October 2024 

  • Changchun – Monthly and hourly minimum wage is increased to 2120 and 21 RMB. 
  • Songyuan, Yanji & Huichun – Monthly minimum wage is at 1920 RMB with an hourly rate of 19.5 RMB. 
  • Siping, Tonghua, Liaoyuan, Baicheng urban area, Meihekou city & other counties (cities) – Hourly wage is increased to 18 RMB with a monthly rate of 1780 RMB. 

Yunnan:

Yunnan’s minimum wage is also increased city wise effective 1st October 2024. 

  • Kunming – Monthly minimum wage is increased to 2070 RMB with hourly increase to 20 RMB. 
  • Certain countries under the jurisdiction of Kunming – Hourly minimum wage is increased to 19 RMB resulting in the increase of monthly wage to 1920 RMB. 
  • Other county level cities – Hourly wage is at 18 RMB and the monthly wage at 1770 RMB.
